Course Director: Craig Levin
Faculty, Associate Professor of Radiology, Stanford University
Member, Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford (MIPS)

Objective: This course is intended for physicians and biomedical scientists interested in pre-clinical molecular imaging research and applications in medicine and biology.

Participants will learn how researchers are using small animal imaging systems to study disease non-invasively and aid in the discovery, development, and monitoring of novel treatments. They will also have the opportunity to participate in in vivo small animal imaging demonstrations using the modalities installed at Stanford’s Clark Center Small Animal Imaging Facility.

Topics Included:
Small Animal Imaging Instrumentation – See below for specifics
Molecular Imaging Probes, Targets, Assays, Applications, and Small Animal Handling
Imaging systems included:
  • Optical Imaging
    • Bioluminescence imaging/tomography
    • Fluorescence imaging/tomography
    • Spectral fluorescence imaging
    • Fiber-based microscopy
    • Intra-vital microscopy
  • Radionuclide Imaging
    • PET
    • SPECT
  • X-ray CT
  • Magnetic Resonance
  • Ultrasound
