Dr. Gambhir is Director of the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford (MIPS), Professor of Radiology and the Bio-X Program, and Head of Nuclear Medicine at Stanford University. He has over 20 years of experience in molecular imaging in both animal models and patients. He has an active laboratory with over 15 post-doctoral fellows and graduate students that focuses on developing molecular imaging assays in small animal models for translation into clinical applications. Dr. Gambhir also has significant experience with clinical PET-CT and working with the FDA on tracer approval and CMS on reimbursement for PET. Dr. Gambhir has over 150 publications in the field of molecular imaging and is PI for the NCI funded Stanford In Vivo Cellular Molecular Imaging Center (ICMIC) P50. He has also been actively involved in the Prostate Spore (UCLA), Mouse Models of Human Cancer Consortium (MMHCC) grant, was the PI of the UCLA Small Animal Imaging Resource Program (SAIRP), was the PI on the R25T at UCLA focused on training molecular imaging scholars and is the PI on the pending Stanford R25T for training molecular imaging scholars. Dr. Gambhir serves on the NCI Scientific Advisory Board, is President Elect of the Academy of Molecular Imaging, and serves on the board of several other societies. He is also on the editorial boards of Radiology, Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Molecular Imaging, Molecular Imaging and Biology, European Journal of Nuclear Medicine/MI. Dr. Gambhir has been actively working with Drs. Shimon Weiss and Anna Wu to utilize quantum dots in living subjects for imaging molecular events and is actively involved trying to bridge ex vivo diagnostics with in vivo diagnostics. Dr. Gambhir will help provide molecular imaging expertise to Project 6 and is PI for the entire CCNE-TR.
