| Research Interests: | I employ nanoparticulate platforms, bioconjugation, and microfabrication to
develop targeting capabilities and platforms of multifunctional diagnostic
and therapeutic devices that could be used clinically either in an in vivo
setting (e.g., molecular imaging diagnostics and/or targeted therapy) or as
part of a bedside monitoring/diagnostic device. I am interested in devising
methods to exploit the molecular basis of a variety of diseases,
particularly cancer, through the identification of molecular targets and
fusion with nanoscale platforms that can interact with standard (e.g., MRI,
PET, optical, SPECT, etc.) and non-standard (e.g., characterization mode
ultrasound) imaging techniques for diagnosis. These methods may be
realized through screening of molecular targets for imaging and/or drug
delivery and novel bioconjugation chemistries that exploit such molecules
in conjunction with materials such as carbon nanotubes, iron oxide
nanoparticles, and porous silicon (and detection modalities for these
materials). I am increasingly focusing upon translating clinically
relevant nanodevices into in vivo animal models and humans for the imaging
of therapeutic response to certain cancers. |
